Sustainable Housing Project
ABOUT US
Imagine not having a safe place to live, to learn and to grow. Imagine never knowing where you sleep tomorrow. This is the harsh reality for over 12,000 people of the indigenous Orang Asil population in Peninsular Malaysia. Over 80% of the population are in desperate need of housing aid and together we can make a difference.
The aim is simple, to provide safe and sustainable housing for these families.
Engineering students from the University of Birmingham will be making a trip to Kuala Lumpur to work alongside students from Taylor's University.
Using CDIO (conceive, design, implement and operate) theories, the students will work in teams to conceive, design and implement a new feature in the homes to encourage the families to live a more sustainable way of life. This specific feature will be decided by the students and may range from increasing energy efficiency and aiding electricty generation to improving water purification techniques and food production methods.
